A crucible in which bronze was heated to molten temperatures. Found at Ayia Irini, a Late Bronze Age (15th century B.C.) site on the island of Kea, Greece, this clay crucible still bears flakes of pale green bronze. Under its thick rim at right is a spout through which the bronze was poured into a mold.
