A course of large rough ashlars. These stones are visible just above ground level north of the Golden Gate. The ashlars, each about 2.5 feet high and 4 to 5 feet long, are unevenly spaced, an indication that the wall had collapsed and was then restacked. These courses resemble the masonry north of the so called straight joint and the masonry in the underground wall east of the Golden Gate discovered more than a century ago by Captain Charles Warren.
