The elaborate western side of the Golden Gate, viewed from the Temple Mount. On the horizon to the east is the Mount of Olives. As part of his massive rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem around 1540, Suleiman the Magnificent built arches to buttress the leaning walls of the Golden Gate.
