The mummy of Ramesses II, Pharaoh of Egypt (c. 1290 B.C.–1223 B.C.), before restoration. Cracks in the resin layers covering Ramesses’s abdominal and pelvic area are clearly visible. His wrappings are in disarray. The Cairo Museum temporarily replaced the damaged cedar casket in which Ramesses’s body was found with this oak one.
