The four letters of the Divine Name, drawn as they appear on the roll. The dotted line indicates a missing but assumed line. In the drawing we see the breaks on the edge of the silver and the crack that caused the lower portions of the characters to shift. The letters are read from right to left. They are written in ancient Hebrew characters, paleographically typical of the time around the destruction of the First Temple in Jerusalem, in the sixth century B.C.
