Astarte, goddess of fertility. A number of fragments like this head were found at Aroer, all dating from the late seventh to early sixth centuries B.C. This Astarte, wearing a pointed hat, was made in a mold. Some paint on the figure is preserved—yellow on her hair, red on her forehead and face, and black outlining her eyes and accenting her eyebrows.
