Aroer fortress wall. The fine workmanship and centerboss style of this masonry help identify it as the work of Herod the Great. Here, parts of three courses are visible; in some places, six courses (eight feet high) were preserved. Each course is four feet deep—ample thickness for a wall supporting more than one story.
