Before: The remains of wall number 4. The outer edges on each side of the wall are clearly visible. Located on the Temple Mount, north of the holy precincts, this wall is noteworthy because it is 1.78 m wide, which is precisely equivalent to four cubits of 44.5 cm each. This cubit length is almost exactly the length of the large cubit (44.7 cm) scholars propose from the description in the Mishnah. This large cubit is designated for profane use. The other two cubits described in the Mishnah are the cubit of Moses (the cubit of the First Temple) and the “small” cubit, used exclusively in the holy areas of the Second Temple.
