Before: Ancient, probably Herodian, ashlars were excavated by Moslem authorities and later removed to this location nearby. These ashlars originally were part of a 16-foot section of wall that filled a gap between two bedrock outcroppings (see photograph of the now-empty pit). Some of the ashlars showed typical Herodian margins and raised central bosses.
