Pillar house at Ai. Here, an artist has reconstructed the best-preserved house excavated at Ai or Raddana. Ahilud lived in a house very similar to this one, basically a simple rectangle separated into two areas by a “room divider” of roof support pillars. Beams rest on the pillars; across the beams are roof slats topped by white clay. In the far corner of the one-room house, a curved wall encloses a silo for storage jars of grain. The spaces between the stone piers at left were once filled in, forming a wall with a second room behind it. This second room could be entered through the doorway at the far left.
