This inscribed skewer was found in an 11th century B.C. tomb in Palaepaphos in southwestern Cyprus. Opheltas, a Greek proper name, is inscribed on the bronze skewer, a piece of confirming evidence for Cyprus’s mythic tradition that some of its cities were founded by Greek heroes after the Trojan War.
