Original and restored sections of mosaic floor blend together in the church’s chancel. A basket of bread with two fish is flanked by diamond shaped designs. At the top left of the photo is an original inscription. Slightly below the inscription is an irregularly shaped section of original mosaic with an overlapping scale pattern. Restorers have outlined both the inscription and the geometric patterned mosaic at left with gray mortar to distinguish them from the newly reconstructed mosaic surrounding them. Also, in order to complement the original mosaic but not compete with it, the restorers have used shades of neutral gray in the reconstructed geometric patterned areas instead of the more vivid colors of the original.
