A wall painting decorating the 15th-century B.C. tomb of Vizier Rekhmire in Egypt illustrates the proper technique for using a foot bellows (see photograph of bellows). Workers melting copper close valves of the bellows with their heels and fill leather air bags fitted on the bellows by stepping off and lifting the bags with leather straps.
