On a cliff above the Timna Valley in Israel’s Negev desert, an ancient nature lover carved this simple likeness of the oryx 3,300 years ago. This rock drawing tells us that the animal we identify as the oryx, the fierce untameable fighter of the Biblical passages, did indeed roam Biblical lands.
