ON THE COVER: Welcoming visitors to the Roman thermae at Hammat Gader in Upper Galilee, this elegant colonnade greeted bathers as they emerged from a dark entrance tunnel. Israeli archaeologists Yizhar Hirschfeld and Giora Solar have reconstructed the colonnade from bases, column sections, lintels and Corinthian capitals found in debris. “Sumptuous Roman Baths Uncovered Near Sea of Galilee” illustrates the careful excavation and restoration of the entire complex at the hot mineral springs that still flow today.
