Bucket Decorated with Winged Creatures
Six bearded divine creatures with shoulder length curling hair, wings and feathered tails, rim the lip of a north Syrian or Assyrian bronze vessel. Bearded men wearing long gowns and swords and carrying branches and round-based buckets are faintly incised in continuous procession around the center of this unique eighth century B.C. container. Probably made specifically to hold a sacred liquid to be used in a religious ceremony, the bucket stands 4.6 inches high and 5.7 inches wide.
