Hewn into solid rock 30 centuries ago, a huge cistern, 12 feet deep, located in the Israelite settlement near the fortress Mesudat Horsha, still holds water. At many of the fortress settlements, walls, terraced fields and cisterns are found. These elements, as well as the nearby four-room houses, indicate that many were part of unified farm complexes.
