Handmade “Negbite” ware. Primitively constructed and fired, these bowls were probably the work of nomad potters. Constantly on the move, these nomads did not have the time to make use of a potter’s wheel or a permanent clay oven. Although Negbite pottery has been found all over the Negev, it is not helpful in pinpointing the date of the fortresses, because scholars assign these vessels to such a wide span of time, ranging from the 12th to the sixth centuries B.C.
