ON THE COVER: Taking pride in a job well done, volunteer excavators and staff at Jerusalem’s City of David Archaeological Project array themselves on one of their more spectacular discoveries: a five-story-high, 43-foot-wide stepped structure that probably supported a vast citadel during David and Solomon’s time. This summer, hundreds of volunteers of all ages and from all corners of the world will join excavation teams in Israel. If you’d like to climb aboard and bring buried Biblical history to light, read “Excavation Opportunities 1986.”
