Jesus’ tomb enclosure. In this 1483 engraving by Von Breydenback, the aedicule, or tomb enclosure, bears a dome supported on open vaults. It seems likely that the ring depicts the domed superstructure that stood in the rotunda of the Crusader reconstruction of the Holy Sepulchre Church—or possibly the dome of the rotunda itself.
