Glueck’s northern dump (upper center and right) obscures part of the casemate wall on the western side of the fortress. Here we see an entrance to one of the casemate rooms. The fortress’s interior is in the foreground.
The northern section of the casemate fortress, under this dump, has never been excavated; in these unexcavated casemate rooms may lie the key to dating the casemate fortress. The wheel-made pottery likely to be found in these rooms could be clearly isolated at this point, providing reliable dating evidence for the date of the casemate fortress.
