Was Lachish part of the far-reaching Egyptian empire in the 12th century B.C.? Finds at Lachish seem to indicate that it was. A cache of broken and defective bronze objects found in debris beneath the Judean city-gate includes this broken object bearing a cartouche of Ramesses III.
