A view of the temple altar from the top, showing the requisite unworked stones prescribed in Exodus 20:22 and the five by five by three cubits dimension (approximately 7.5 by 7.5 by 4.5 feet) described in Exodus 27:1. In this view, a central flint slab is visible, and a channel to drain the sacrifice’s blood and fat.

Vandals recently broke open the altar, discovering, as did archaeologists who repaired the damage, that the altar was filled only with dirt and clay.
