The Israelite well at Arad. When this picture was taken in 1983, archaeologists had exposed 52 feet of the ancient well shaft. Located in a depression in the Early Bronze city of Arad, about 65 feet west of the Israelite citadel, the well supplied water that was carried up to the fortress and poured into a channel that passed under the fortress wall. The water then flowed to storage cisterns within the fortress.
