Imprisoned in the earth, 9,000-year old plaster statues await their release. Discovered at ‘Ain Ghazal in Jordan, the three-foot-high figures were removed to a laboratory in London still safely encased in this block of hard protective sediment.

Separated from the block the statues are now being conserved and prepared for display (see front cover).
