Square openwork stand: Monumental in feeling, but actually diminutive, this four-inch-high bronze artifact from Megiddo exemplifies the basic square form used for many bronze stands. Each side features a scene in which a worshipper, standing and wearing a short skirt, offers a gift to a deity. The god—wearing a long garment—sits on a throne. Above the square base, a round frame provides a resting place for an offering bowl.
