A collection of Jewish letters, deeds and financial documents, sealed with bullae and dating to the fifth and fourth centuries B.C., were found on Elephantine, an island in the upper Nile. Typical of this collection, the papyrus shown has been folded several times, bound with a string and sealed with a bulla. The word “deed” written in ink appears on the papyrus.
