Bronze surgical instruments, used in ancient Egypt. In Pharaonic Egypt, medicine was highly developed, and court physicians enjoyed reputations unequaled in the rest of the Near East. Thus, when Pharaoh’s physicians were confronted by the Exodus plagues, and the learned experts proved impotent, their failure was especially dramatic.
