The magnificent stairway of the Nessana acropolis, seen from below, zigzags up to the hilltop, where the roofless walls of the Turkish hospice stand against the sky. Built upon a fill that dates no later than the late first century B.C., the stairway probably once led up to a Nabatean temple.
