Curio from Building C. While excavating the southern room of Building C—now understood as part of the gatehouse—Professor Benjamin Mazar found part of a zoomorphic (animal-shaped) vessel among 40 storage jars and five large bowls. The piece from the zoomorphic, ceramic vessel represents a duck’s head. Oriented sideways in this photo, the 2-inch-long fragment displays two eyes, one above the other at center, and a tapering bill on the right, perforated by two breathing holes.
