Flinder examines a submerged pottery vessel. Most of the pottery discovered on the sea bottom dates to the late Roman and Byzantine periods (330–640 A.D.) and was discovered in a wide area some 165 feet west of the island at a depth of 25–30 feet. A much smaller area further north, just offshore, contained medieval pottery (see plan).
