Douglas Guthrie/Tel Miqne-Ekron Excavation Project
Seymour Gitin and Trude Dothan, co-directors of the Tel Mique-Ekron excavation project, stand behind six of the eleven seventh-century B.C.E. incense altars they and their team have discovered so far. The four-foot-high altar at center was found very near to an olive-oil installation in the southeastern corner of the tell. The round altar in the foreground comes from the city’s domestic zone. The others, from industrial buildings at Ekron, are of the four-horned type.
