Life on the edge. This plan provides a bird’s-eye-view of the Sellin and Watzinger excavations on the northern end of the tell. On the right, labelled “Israelitische Böschungsmauer” (Israelite Revetment Wall), is the tell’s outermost fortification. The buildings shown here were built on the rampart that rose to Jericho’s city wall proper. The city wall is not shown here; it would have been just off the left side of this plan.
