A sign of reuse of stones in the synagogue is the uneven heights of ashlars in their courses. A drawing of the eastern wall, by the French priest and archaeologist Louis Hugues Vincent (1872–1960), clearly shows this uneven stone height along the lowest course, designated A. A photograph of the stones on the far right of Vincent’s drawing, labeled A and B, shows them exposed to a lower depth (see photograph).
