Port of call. On the shore of the Sea of Galilee, below the mountaintop city of Hippos, were its harbor and anchorage (in effect, a second, smaller harbor). Today, both are still partially visible.
The photo shows the remains of the two perpendicular breakwaters of the anchorage, about a half-mile north of the harbor. The anchorage was built earlier than the harbor and served as a base for fishermen plying the waters on the eastern Sea of Galilee.
