Majestic ruins. At the front of the nave of the Hippos cathedral were a central apse and two smaller apses, at the end of side aisles. The four exposed lower courses of the main apse are of basalt. The poor of the apse was paved with a multicolored mosaic, fragments of which can be seen in the picture above.
The large number of glass tesserae found on the pavement of the cathedral indicate that some, and possibly all, of the walls were once covered with colored mosaics. To add even further to the magnificence of the church, marble lined the lower parts of the walls.
