A Theran maiden strides beneath a blue arch, representing the heavens, in a wall painting from the House of the Ladies. (The name comes from the three paintings of women found in the complex.) Stylized stars twinkle above the arch.
The nearly life-size woman is draped in Minoan-style dress, with flowing dark hair, gold earrings, lipstick and tinted cheeks. Papyrus-like plants sprout on the wall at right.
Here, as in the other wall paintings, the rough areas are the original work; smooth areas indicate modern-day restorations.
