Ashkelon’s treasures. This laurel-leaf crown of gold was found among the charred debris of a building along Ashkelon’s coast. The structure was destroyed in a citywide conflagration in about 300 B.C., when Ptolemy I Soter of Egypt was establishing his rule over the region.
