The central cairn, topped with the archaeological team, contains a burial chamber looted in antiquity. Fragments of bone and a few artifacts, perhaps left behind by grave robbers, were all that remained when the excavation team, guided by ground-penetrating radar, opened the chamber.
The wooden pole at center is a triangulation marker used by early surveyors. In some sections, the circular rock walls surrounding the cairn stand nearly 8 feet high and 10 feet wide.
