Salvaged from the sea, these 11 items are but a sample of the 70 pottery vessels recovered from the shipwreck. At rear in the photo are three pitchers; in front of them stand two juglets, with four small and two larger bowls also shown. At lower right is an oil lamp. Most of the pottery items were for the sailors’ daily use. They date to about 400 B.C.; the excavators are conducting neutron activation analysis to pinpoint more exactly where in the eastern Mediterranean the pottery was made.
