Nearly surrounded by water (the strips of green at upper center are freshwater fish ponds on the site of an ancient lagoon), Tel Dor occupies most of the peninsula at center. The excavation areas, visible as the lighter-colored places where the surface has been stripped away, cover only a small portion of the tell after 12 years of work, so much remains to be discovered.
