Have ladder, will travel. The rugged and steep terrain near the Dead Sea made the caves within the cliffs accessible only by rope ladder. Author Safrai, thanks to ten years of experience as a fisherman, was given the task of securing the 300-foot rope ladder that was used to reach the Cave of Horrors. Reaching the Cave of Letters required a 60-foot rope ladder.
