A wealth of storage jars, the most yet found in Israel, lay in the storage areas of the Cabul fortress. The 300 jars located thus far exhibit a variety of shapes to suit their function. The large, globe-shaped jars with a ridged rim were probably used to store olive oil. All the jars of this type contained soot, a residue of the oil that burned during the final destruction of the fortress.
