The Greek orthodox church and monastery at Capernaum reflect the brilliant Galilee sun. The fishing industry here helped contribute to ancient Capernaum’s prosperous economy and provided Jesus with his earliest disciples.
The Greek Orthodox portion of the property comprises nearly 72,000 square feet. Systematic excavations did not begin here until 1978.
