A rock-hewn sarcophagus, chiseled from the live rockbed, stands at the rear of tomb 2. Although the front had been carved down to floor level, the ancient workmen did not bother to carve the back and sides down much below the top. The sarcophagus almost certainly had a lid originally. Other tombs contain burial troughs that did not have a lid, while still others feature burial benches carved along one, two or three sides of the chamber.
