Tier 1 of the Taanach cult stand. Although the animal has often been identified as a bull, two experts have recently confirmed that it is a horse—an animal associated with Yahweh, but not with Baal. The absence of a mane does not alter this identification: numerous Iron Age figurines depict horses without manes, including one from Jerusalem (see photograph).
