Shemaryahu Talmon (left), Jonas Greenfield (right) and Emile Puech (center). Puech “inherited” the texts previously assigned to the late Father Jean Starcky, who like Strugnell, had been one of the original group of editors. Talmon and Greenfield, both of Hebrew University, are members of the Israel Antiquities scroll oversight committee. They joined the editing team only after their appointment to the committee, and Strugnell resented their desire to have more texts assigned to them. In the accompanying interview, Strugnell compares them to the two daughters of the leech in Proverbs 30:15—“The leech has two daughters; ‘Give, give,’ they cry.”
