Israel Antiquities Authority
A fragment of MMT. Elisha Qimron believes the document is a letter from the Teacher of Righteousness, the Qumran community’s founder, probably to his archenemy, the Wicked Priest who headed the Temple in Jerusalem. Strugnell, however, has recently come to believe that MMT is not a letter at all, but a work about law and about the Qumran community’s calendar. Ironically, Strugnell’s dissent may not be reflected in his and Qimron’s long-awaited and still-to-appear official publication of MMT. Strugnell says that the volume on MMT has been delayed so long that he does not wish to hold it up any further while he formulates his opposing view to Qimron.
