Dead Sea: The Dead Sea was a crucial link in trade routes leading from Arabia and the Horn of Africa to Jerusalem. The most convenient route ran up the east coast of the sea to ports like Callirrhoe and the Lissan Peninsula, then across the water to Qumran, and along the Salt Road. By an alternative landing on the west coast of the Dead Sea, traders could also reach Jerusalem via Ein Gedi.
