“The river Qishon is the River Qedumim,” states Judges 5:21. In Ramesses II’s geographic list at Karnak, Qerumin (a variant of Qedumim) is the first site on a route through the Jezreel Valley. The Qishon region was the setting for Deborah’s war against a Canaanite alliance led by Jabin, king of the city of Qishon near Mt. Tabor (author Krahmalkov believes the Biblical account incorrectly links Jabin, king of Qishon, with Hazor). Baraq, Deborah’s general, there engaged Jabin’s general Sisera in battle; the ensuing military campaign is narrated in Judges 4–5.
